The Illegal Squad collective from Mexico City is visiting friends in Berlin for the first time. They have brought over 100 issues of their magazines, screen prints and original tags and drawings from a cross-section of the Mexican writing scene.

About Illegal Squad:
Illegal Squad is a collective, shop, and cultural platform dedicated to the promotion and documentation of graffiti and urban art in Mexico. Founded in the late 1990s, it has been a pioneer in highlighting the work of street writers and artists through print media such as fanzines and independent magazines, as well as through exhibitions, events, and graffiti materials, including their own brand of aerosol spray. In addition to being a physical meeting point for urban artists, Illegal Squad has established itself as a living archive of contemporary Mexican graffiti.
Their visual style is characterized by rawness, the use of public space as a canvas, and a defiant attitude toward established norms, honoring the original essence of graffiti as a form of protest, expression, and cultural resistance.

Über Illegal Squad:
Illegal Squad ist ein Kollektiv, ein Shop und eine Kuktur-Plattform, die sich der Förderung und Dokumentation von Graffiti und urbaner Kunst in Mexiko widmet. Gegründet in den späten 1990er Jahren, hat Illegal Squad Pionier-Arbeit geleistet um die Arbeit von Streetwriterinnen und Künstlerinnen sichtbar zu machen. Durch Printmedien wie Fanzines und unabhängige Magazine sowie durch Ausstellungen, Veranstaltungen und Graffiti-Materialien, einschließlich ihrer eigenen Sprühdosen-Marke. Illegal Squad ist nicht nur ein physischer Treffpunkt für urbane Künstler*innen, sondern hat sich auch als lebendiges Archiv für zeitgenössische mexikanische Graffiti etabliert.
